Overview   ..............................................................................................................

Kianga Ford approached Studio Luz to collaborate on her project, Walking Home. It is a cross-country walk from the artist’s home in Los Angeles to her childhood home in Central Florida that will be the basis for a mobile installation and a book-journal. This is an endurance project that uses the apparently simple gesture of “walking to one’s home” to reflect on both the affect of distance on daily life and the mutability of the concept of home in the present. It is a project about everyday endurance, about instability, about exile, about the distance traveled by housekeepers, scientists, farm workers, political refugees, and intellectuals alike. It is about the acceleration of displacement and our ways, as an increasingly global culture, of adapting.
