Interior renovations to an existing restaurant space
Completion: 2007

Mela means Festival in Punjabi; this idea inspired the design of this small space. The Owners mandated that all design elements have direct ties to Punjabi Indian culture. To best respect these wishes we used an abstraction of materials, colors and textures. The colors are inspired from the Saris and headwear found in Punjabi area of India, where vibrant mixes are common. The lighting concept is inspired by floating lanterns so often found in festive environments. We found inspiration in copper flashing as copper is used in the preparation of many Indian dishes. The interior facade is layered and looped out of copper flashing, to unite the two dining areas.
