Performance space finalist
Completion: 2007 - unbuilt

The City of Somerville, the Somerville Arts Council and the Mayor’s Office, sought to create a new performance area in Union Square. We responded with a design that strives to combine landscape elements and urban furniture. Our response was to create an intervention that would invite the public to participate as well create a buffer from the busy street. This winning proposal incorporates components of the sidewalk, literally reclaiming transitional granite curbing and reconfiguring them to create a multi function perimeter. It also provides a large garden area for planting. The performance area is defined using solar powered illuminated bricks, absorbing solar energy by day creating footlights by night.
