Project Overview

Studio Luz was engaged for assistance by MassDevelopment TDI to perform a planning study in an effort to revitalize the historic business districts in 13 cities in Massachusetts. Our study and report sought to identify significant community anchors, local economy resources, wealth building assets and under-utilized areas in need of development. Acting as a technical architect, Studio Luz worked with MassDevelopment TDI to implement a long-term development plan that will revitalize the disparate parts of the city and activate the under-utilized portions of these cities.

COMPREHENSIVE RESEARCH

This mapping project for the 13 historical districts recognized by TDI uses information provided by MassDevelopment for each district along with online research to provide a comprehensive overview of the focus districts within the target scope.

ANALYSIS OF EXISTING CONDITIONS

Colorful and engaging maps are used to identify significant community anchors, Local economy resources, wealth building assets and under-utilized areas in need of development. These maps can be used as tools to discuss with Mass Development fellows to implement future plans that activate and revitalize historic business districts.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

REVITALIZATION & ACTIVATION

The identified existing community resources and deficiencies are intended for use by TDI Mass Development in their future planning to revitalize and activate these historic business districts which will enable for development of local economies to benefit their cities’ and towns’ residents.

TDI Mass Development Asset Mapping

MassDevelopment TDI is working on an extensive study and planning effort to revitalize the historic business districts in thirteen Massachusetts cities.

Studio Luz used urban mapping strategies to identify and depict important cultural centers, local businesses, and potential areas for real estate and wealth development within each city. This planning project equips MassDevelopment TDI with the tools to make informed decisions as they improve these important historic districts.
